Thermal Image Phenomena |

Virginia City, Nevada Old Washoe Club 3rd Floor These two short clips show what appears to be some sort of heat anomaly in a small transom above a closed door. While glass can reflect thermal signatures, the movements of the anomaly do not match the movements of the camera operator. At this time we cannot make a determination on whether or not it is paranormal. Clip 1 Clip 2 R.M.S. Queen Mary Aft Engine Room w/ Chris Fleming This apparition was captured immediately after a battery change. The anomaly appears to be on the catwalk and is moving slowly to the right. The full clip clearly shows that there were no reflective surfaces or people present. Chris Fleming, a sensitive, had commented on seeing shadows in that area earlier in the night. This footage would seem to verify his claim. Full Clip Shorter clip 50% speed Bird Cage Theatre Front Room These two reflections appear to come from the right of the camera operator. There was only one other person in the room at that time and he was not moving. The reflections themselves are very obviously human, to the point of the camera operator assuming they were his own. Due to the strong human reflection elements and the large number of reflective surfaces in that room, we cannot rule out some sort of "periscope effect" at this time. Full Clip Shorter clip 50% speed Bird Cage Theatre Downstairs Several pennies and other coins downstairs in the high-stakes poker area were several degrees hotter than the surrounding surfaces. Many other coins can be seen as the dark spots on the table. Unfortunately the area was closed off which meant we were unable to investigate further, but we did try recreating the findings at home and were unable to do so. Coins do not absorb heat very well so all we were able to accomplish was to raise the temperature of the surrounding surfaces. We also tried comparing various coins that had been carried around in hands and pockets to those sitting out on a table but the difference was minimal. However since we were unable to examine the coins themselves we have no way of knowing if they were real. The spots on the spittoons are believed to be reflections. Full Clip Bird Cage Theatre Gift Shop We are not quite sure what to make of this one. It appears to be the reflection of a head, but the shape and clothing do not match that of anyone present in the room. Full Clip 50% speed Bird Cage Theatre Gift Shop Another gift shop clip, this one appears to be similar in some respects to our Queen Mary footage. The anomaly is slightly above the background temperature and some movement can be seen near the end of the clip. We can rule out human or human reflection for a number of reasons. First, a human would have a much higher temperature reading at that close range. Second, the camera operator would be visible if it were a reflection. Third, it cannot be a reflection of the camera operator due to the position of the arms and the angle of view. However unlike the QM anomaly, we are unable to tell what the camera is pointed at. While there were no mannequins in the room, there will always be a degree of uncertainty due to the background. Full Clip 50% speed Presidio Officer's Club Moraga Room In this clip, a ball of heat can be seen moving almost in unison with the camera before fading. Normally we might assume this to be a reflection, however the distance was at least 55 feet according to floor plans. Only surfaces such as glass will reflect heat signatures at that distance and even then are easily recognizable to the trained eye. This anomaly presents no characteristics of a human reflection and very well may be paranormal. Full Clip Presidio Officer's Club Moraga Room This clip further disproves the possibility of the above being a reflection. A ball of heat or other energy being presented as heat can clearly be seen moving out of a doorway, hovering for several seconds, and moving back. While camcorders frequently pick up insects or dust particles that may be mistaken for paranormal activity (commonly referred to as orbs,) a thermal camera operates in an entirely different way and discounts both of those possibilities. The steadiness of camera allowed the thermal operator (ThermOp) to notice the anomaly in real-time and confirm that there was nothing present in the room. Is this an example of a true orb? We don't know, but what we do know is that we have no explanation for what was recorded. Full Clip |
